Leading the Way

Spinal Decompression and Traction Therapy

Spinal Decompression is a therapy designed for sufferers of chronic lower back pain or neck pain resulting from a herniated disc, bulging disc, degenerative disc and some other lower back problems such as sciatica or a pinched nerve.

This treatment is very safe and your doctor will utilize FDA-approved traction equipment to apply distraction forces in a specific and graduated manner. These distraction forces are offset by cycles of partial relaxation which allow the vertebrae to gently separate from each other, creating a vacuum inside the discs being targeted. The ‘vacuum effect’ created is also known as negative intra-discal pressure.

The negative pressure may induce the retraction of the herniated or bulging disc into the inside of the disc and away from the nerves involved. The effect after each session is microscopic but cumulatively grows over the course of treatment.

In addition to ‘sucking’ the disc back into place, the cycle of decompression and partial relaxation promotes the diffusion of water, oxygen and nutrient-rich fluids from the outside of the discs to the inside. These nutrients promote healing within the torn and degenerated disc fibers.

Proper patient screening is crucial to optimal treatment results. Please contact our clinic today to see if you are a candidate for Spinal Decompression Therapy.

Spinal decompression therapy is an intensive six-week program of about 20-25 treatment sessions.  The treatments are a gentle and painless non-invasive option that has been highly successful in the past, allowing patients to return to a more normal lifestyle.

89 % of patients who have been properly selected and comply with the Spinal Disc Decompression protocol will have good to excellent outcomes…

What Good People are Saying...

  • Dr. Aaron Hoy has been my chiropractor for over 20 years now. I am over 50 years old and an active squash player and runner, and Dr. Hoy has helped me countless times in adjusting my body after an injury. Over the years, I have had knee injuries, elbow and wrist injuries due to carpal tunnel syndrome, hip and groin injuries and even foot problems! Dr. Hoy helped me maintain a free-moving body and to correct these problems as they arose, so I continue to play squash very freely and happily, and to run, do circuit-training, weights and cycling. I am always recommending Dr. Hoy to my friends. He knows what he’s doing, and he really cares.

    Carllie Hennigan
  • Very physiologically aware and deeply dedicated is how I have experienced Dr. Hoy’s applying of his obviously extensive cervico and lumbar spinal knowledge and chiropractic sill on me, over the years. In my opinion, Dr. Hoy is the ‘chiropractor of chiropractors’ – in other words a stellar role model for ‘newbie’ chiropractors, in addition to providing his patient with excellent regular clinical practice in his first-rate clinic (I’ve tried a few.)

I would unhesitatingly recommend this ultra-professional Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Aaron Hoy, to anyone who wants comfortable, superior recovery from injury and/or top notch musculoskeletal/joint/nerve maintenance for their neck and back

    D. McKnight
  • What is unique about Dr. Aaron Hoy is his capacity to explain and help the patient understand how to identify and improve the contributing factors involved in any particular issue.

    Hugh Richards
  • On one of my first visits to Dr. Hoy, approximately 20 years ago, I think he must have wondered what kind of a kook he was dealing with. I dumped a sack full of orthotics on the floor! Approximately 8 to 10 pairs. Net result of visit, after a few sessions, Dr. Hoy got me out of orthotics and using my own feet.

One day several years later I collapsed in my apartment and was shunted off to the hospital. I was there about three weeks – 13 prescriptions, enough x-rays (radiation) to last a lifetime, numerous tests of one kind and another. While in hospital I collapsed several times and I finally asked what could be causing this. I was told – ‘Well, it seems it was one of the prescription drugs I was being given.’

Now I found myself in the position of having to live with the pain – couldn’t stand, sit, or lean on anything.

Then a friend told me to try Dr. Hoy. After trying to get x-rays delivered to his office and getting an explanation, and several sessions of working together, I am happy to say that I am now walking and no drugs, prescription or otherwise.

Many thanks to Dr. Hoy, with his deft fingers and diagnosis. I am very happy to recommend his talents.

  • Jordan has been one of my TCM practitioners for 2 years. I have always felt that he knows the human body well. I’ve found significant pain relief through acupuncture for my arthritic body and leg with hip and knee joint replacements.

The herbs have helped with my digestion, sounder sleep, and to restore my body’s balance.

    L. Ewanchuk
  • Hi Jordan, I just wanted to send you an email to say thank you. I have felt so comfortable with you, overcoming my fear of needles. You are very tentative, caring and knowledgeable. I feel very taken care of when I come to see you which is honestly what I really needed this whole time with my injury. Not only that but your work is fantastic! I feel much better every time I see you! I just went for a walk that took me about half an hour last time I tried it but today I did it in 7 mins! I see progress and this for me is so meaningful. I believe your work has a big portion in helping me heal. I am so thankful I took the step to overcome my fear and trust Dr. Hoys referral! Thank you for being who you are and doing the work that you do. Also for giving me tips every time I see you and referring me on to other specialists I want to see. Thank you.

  • I have had good health since I met Dr. Hoy a quarter century ago. I had strained my back badly in my early 20’s, lifting a car battery out of an engine compartment. I was never right for years after. During a stint of commercial paperhanging, the injury came back several times. I was debilitating. Regular visits to Dr. Hoy put me right quickly and I have maintained a state of excellent structural health since. He also gave me the exercises to strengthen my core. Feeling stronger at 57 than 27 is a good thing. Highly recommended!

  • Dr. Aaron Hoy has been treating me bi-weekly since May 2006 for lower back problems. His overall approach is consistent with my desire to maintain physical activity during treatment. He has not only treated my physical concerns, but also provided valuable input to health of spirit and mind as an integral part of the physical healing process. I would certainly recommend his services to anyone who wants a dedicated and concerned professional who can and will tailor treatment to suit their particular requirements.

    John Kupskay
  • I came to see Jordan with low energy levels. I struggled to get out of bed in the morning and I had no energy to exercise. After a few treatments, I noticed that my energy levels had increased and my mood improved.

    C. Watt
  • I had moved to Vancouver in the last 5 years and always used the same practitioner in England. So coming to Vancouver I wanted to trust and feel comfortable with my Chiropractor. I have been coming to Dr. Hoy now for 3 years and have been really happy with the results. I have been having treatments for tendonitis caused by repetitive use in squash and also recently seeing John’s Acupuncture and combining the techniques for great results.

    Emma Parke
  • I’ve been a patient of Dr. Hoy’s since my return to Vancouver from Toronto in the fall of 1993. I’d just been diagnosed with Hepatitis C, driven across the country post biopsy and hadn’t seen a chiropractor for 11 years. The first adjustment he gave me led to such a release of tension that I burst into tears much to the surprise of my favourite chiropractor, Dr. Aaron Hoy.

I find Dr. Hoy to be a great chiropractor; he has a wealth of knowledge as it relates to the human physiology, and has even beenk known to adjust the arches of my feet. I’ve a particularly complicated neck, it is longer than most as I’m tall and Hepatitis affects my muscle tone there and on the rare occasions when I’ve had to resort to using other chiro’s, I’ve never been happy with the results of my neck adjustments, he is deft and quick.

He’s an optimist with a positive attitude and had provided me with the stretching techniques to sustain an adjustment for up to a month from a starting point of even twice a week when I’ve done something particularly debilitating such as an inopportune fall. He’s also ready with a pen if any type of reporting it required.

I always look forward to seeing Dr. Hoy, he’s a good Chiropractor, employer and family man.

  • Dr. Hoy is an integral part of my life! Over the past 15 years he has kept me nimble so I can continue to hike, run, golf and do all the other sports I want to do. He also works closely wit the medical community and provides solid information and recommendations for anti-aging which so many of us need. The office is a friendly, efficient place and I have to say I really enjoy my chiropractic visits!!

  • I was suffering from severe neck pain and stiffness for several months. As a result I found that I wasn’t able to sleep at night. After just one treatment with Jordan I felt more relaxed, the pain decreased, and I was able to sleep well for the first time in months. I now see Jordan on a monthly basis for maintenance and no longer suffer from chronic pain.

  • I’ve been a patient of Dr. Hoy’s for 17 years. I had waited a year and a half from the original injury before knowing a chiropractor was an option. Our family wasn’t too versed in therapeutic rehabilitation so of course I went to a physician for an examination of the problem. Thank goodness the doctor knew of chiropractic medicine and had gone to Dr. Hoy herself with excellent results. Because I had waited, my body was compensating and shifting in many areas. Dr. Hoy did an exam and was so conscious of my situation, he told me he was going to study my chart so he would approach it in the most effective way. Silly me, I went to a job of telephone work (with no headset) right after/ my clavicle started to squish my vein coming from my heart and I was getting faint at work.

I phone Dr. Hoy and he advised me to leave work and not to return until we had started treatment. I started seeing him everyday for 2 weeks, then 3 times, then 2 times; to once a week for many years. This may seem a lot but I was in pain 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I remember the first day I was without pain; it was 3 ½ years into my treatments and for once I felt ‘normal,’ even human again.

Even though daily activity would put my back into the old patterns, we had finally figured out the puzzle. I’ve been coming to him ever since because he knows all of my areas of concern that occasionally still do shift and subluxate. But 1 or 2 visits and it’s back to pain free. I also have followed his tips for sleeping, body placement posture, and body maintenance. He’s just a wealth of information which he shares quite freely. Thanks for Westside Wellness Centre for their great support.

  • I have no hesitation recommending Jordan Titchener as a practitioner of TCM. I have had many acupuncture treatments from him for my various health concerns, one of which was to strengthen my immunity. I found him to be extremely skilled, and committed to my well being.

    N. Martin
  • I’ve been seeing Jordan to help with my anxiety and stress. Jordan made me feel very safe, listened to what I had to say in a supportive and non-judgemental way and selected a treatment based on my symptoms and needs at that time. I feel more emotionally balanced and resilient. I could not recommend any therapist more highly.

  • I did some work for Dr. Domingo at his house and he noticed my poor posture and stiff movements, and suggested I get it looked at. I went to see him and found out my feet were all messed up and were causing my hips to go out and my spine followed suit. Being a painter and on my feet all day, my new orthotics and ‘new’ back are keeping me at work and away from the couch.

  • Early in 2005 I afflicted with severe headaches and vertigo. I had had a neck/shoulder injury from a few years prior, but had never had headaches before. The acute vertigo turned out to be an inner ear problem, and I was able to be treated for that. Being left with an ‘off balance’ feeling and difficulty to concentrate, as well as still having the neck/shoulder injury, my massage therapist recommended Dr. Aaron Hoy to me. It was months before I went to see him because at the time I didn’t like the idea of chiropractic. I have learned so much since being treated by Dr. Hoy. He has addressed my neck/shoulder injury and my thinking and concentration has become gradually clearer and clearer. He has also taught me to be much more in touch with my body and to learn new ways of moving that help to keep my body structurally sound. I have gone from not being able to work to embarking on a new career and loving it! I am very grateful to Dr. Hoy for his knowledge, skill and his contribution to my life.

    Susan Kinross
  • My experiences with Chiropractic have led me to believe that pain means that there is something wrong. Rather than take painkillers to dull the pain, I would rather get to the root of the problem and get it fixed. Only Chiropractic care seems to do this. Dr. Hoy has always been extremely kind, caring and professional. Thank you Dr. Hoy, for taking care of me for almost twenty years!

    Bonnie Klein
  • I am a senior with advanced Osteoarthritis. Five years ago in despair, I arrived at Westside Chiropractic and Associates. I was helped even after the first visit.

I had been seeing specialists, doctors and physiotherapists without relief for ongoing leg, back and foot pain. Now, with regular maintenance care and a simple program designed specifically for my problems, Dr. Hoy has helped me to resume an active and pain free lifestyle.

  • Thank you for the wonderful care you provide, Dr. Hoy. Without regular adjustments, I would suffer greatly from the many accidents I have experienced. His work assists me in working out regularly—just enough that I remain flexible.Your ongoing gentle assistance to my healing is a blessing in my life. Anyone who basks in the light of you ministrations is in a good place.

    Jacqueline Forster
  • I’ve seen Dr. Domingo for a number of ailments throughout the years, and he takes the time to get to the bottom of things and really explains things to me so I understand what’s going on and how we can solve the problem. I’ve benefited from his care and have sent my kids and relatives to him to get straightened out!

  • After I had my baby, I felt very lost, lonely and weak. I had no energy left, besides taking care of my beautiful son. I didn’t know that what I actually had was post-partum depression. I thought ppd was only about moms that reject their babies but it turns out it can be many other things. I waited for it to go away. And things were moving… but very, very slow. About 3 months ago, my loving husband gave me Jordan Titchener’s card. I went to Jordan. He listened to me, really listened. To understand what I was going through and to help me get out of it. And how amazing it was to have my whole life changed in five sessions. Five. The sun started to shine again. Life was more than just juggling work and motherhood. I’m happy again. And Jordan, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. You changed the course of not only my life but the life of my whole family.

  • ‘Dr. D is to the point and quite knowledgeable. I was referred by my sister and her kids, and I now know what ‘normal’ feels like and get tuned up regularly before anything gets out of hand.’

  • Results. I play soccer regularly and have kids to deal with along with my work which requires a lot of travel, so I can’t afford to be hurt. Dr. Domingo has kept me going after a couple of car crashes and I am still active. He always gets me moving again when I seize up.

  • Dr. Domingo uses a variety of things on me, from manipulations and massage to electrotherapy and Spinal Decompression; whatever it took to get me back playing basketball. I had two disc herniations on opposite sides when we looked at my CT scans. I tried physio and not much success, and within a few months, Dr. D had me running again and playing basketball finally!

  • I have just started receiving acupuncture treatments from Jordan and already I am delighted with his gifts as a healer. He was recommended by my fantastic chiropractor and I have great faith in Jordan’s healing skills. I look forward to my next treatment. He is knowledgeable, kind, caring, and professional. I know he must make such a difference to the people who put themselves in his very capable hands.

  • Jordan has helped me with menopause symptoms – hot flashes, lack of sleep and hormone imbalance. I found Jordan attentive and sensitive to my needs. I am very pleased with the results of my treatments.

  • I had no idea what was wrong with my hip. It popped when I landed awkwardly playing hoops. Dr. Domingo evaluated it, treated it and I still wasn’t able to play ball. He referred me out for x-rays and then we looked at them together. He noticed an irregularity and pointed it out to me. He researched it and came back to me with some bad news….I might need surgery to fix this. He directed me to UBC Sports Med and I’m waiting to see a surgeon to fix my hip. He continued to treat my hip to lessen my pain while I wait to see the surgeon. Thanks to Dr. Domingo, I may be able to play again soon, rather than wait months to even find out what’s wrong with me.

  • I had back pain that went on for months. I went and got an MRI scan and found out I had bulging discs and a mildly herniated one. Dr. Domingo adjusted my back to the point where I don’t feel pain anymore and can run daily. He also took the time to refer me to a specialist to deal with another problem, but he felt it might be related to my back condition. I just went to see that specialist and am getting that issue resolved.

  • I have been seeing Dr. Hoy for a few years now and I can’t imagine my life
without him. I truly feel so lucky to have him on my team of trusted health
care professionals. Not only is he amazing but also his staff. They are very
friendly and truly care about each individual. Every time I go in, I am
always surprised at the instant relief and how much better I feel. Even when
I think I feel good, I go in for my regular check up, and end up feeling
even better. If you’ve ever been hesitant to see a chiropractor or not had
the best experience before, I can honestly say that Dr. Hoy is truly gifted
and very unique in what he offers. We are so lucky to have him in the
community and I highly recommend him. Thank you for all that you do Dr. Hoy!

FAQs Chiropractic Care

Will I have to get X-rays taken?

Each patient case is unique and as such, some situations will require x-rays. There are a number of factors that contribute to the decision as to whether or not you will require x-rays. Your Chiropractor is very well trained in detecting these factors and will discuss them with you should they feel radiographs are necessary.

Can I bring my child in to be treated by the Chiropractor?

Children are susceptible to trauma in their spines from various activities and events. These microtraumas can subluxate the vertebrae of the spine, placing pressure on their spinal nerves and therefore decreasing their body’s ability to function normally. Although symptoms, such as pain and malfunction may not show up for years, injury to their vital nervous system can have a lifetime of damaging effects. (information care of http://www.icpa4kids.org )

Do I need a referral to see the Chiropractor?

No referral is necessary in order to see the Chiropractor. The Chiropractor is qualified to diagnose many neuromusculoskeletal issues and is able to identify situations that may warrant a referral. Unlike many medical benefits plans that require a medical doctor’s referral in order for coverage for massage therapy, no such referral is necessary with MOST extended medical plans for Chiropractic. It is best that you check with your plan prior to your first visit.

Is there insurance coverage for my care?

Many people have extended medical benefits through their employers. If you have a benefits plan it is best to review it prior to seeing the Chiropractor in order to ensure you will be covered. You will be responsible for paying upfront for each visit. We will supply you with receipts upon request in order for you to make a claim for reimbursement from your provider.

Those individuals with premium assistance with the medical services plan (MSP) of British Columbia are eligible for a subsidized rate. Please see the MSP website for more information in order to determine if you qualify.

How does ICBC coverage work following a motor vehicle accident?

The first thing to do in order to seek care for injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident is to make a claim to ICBC. This can be done online at the ICBC website or via phone by calling 604-520-8222 if in the lower mainland or 1-800-910-4222 for the rest of BC. ICBC will appoint an adjuster to you who can help you through the rest of your claim.

When coming in for your first appointment with the Chiropractor please have the following information with you from your claim:

• Adjuster’s name
• Adjuster’s phone number
• Claim number
• Date of accident

What is the cost of an initial visit and what does it include?

In order to determine the cause of your symptoms, the doctor will conduct a thorough case history and physical examination. The physical examination includes a surface electromyogram scan (SEMG) of your neuromuscular system, orthopedic testing and motion tests. At any point during the examination, the Chiropractor may recognize the need for an x-ray or possibly a referral to another health care provider. If further tests or referrals are unwarranted, then you may be deemed to be a candidate for Chiropractic care. If so, the practitioner will, with your informed consent, perform a simple treatment aimed at giving you some symptomatic relief.

Generally the initial visit costs $80. Should x-rays be required, this would require further payment the amount being dependent upon the views taken.

What is a subsequent visit, and what is the cost? A re-examination visit?

A subsequent visit is any visit following the initial one that that is not a re-examination visit. A subsequent visit can range from 5 to 15 minutes depending on the case. The cost of a subsequent visit is $50 given that there are no x-rays required.

A re-examination visit is a subsequent visit that is scheduled at intervals throughout your regular care in order to determine and chart your progress. The practitioner will re-test any orthopedic tests that were positive, perform another SEMG scan of your neuromuscular system and re-evaluate your frequency and plan of management. The cost of a re-examination visit is $55.

What are the education requirements to become a Chiropractor?

Chiropractic education in Canada is offered at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, and at l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR). Both programs are fully accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education of Canada that has adopted standards similar to those of the Council on Chiropractic Education in the United States which is, in turn, recognized by the United States Department of Education.

Seven years university-level education
Chiropractic students undergo a rigorous course of study similar to that of other health care professionals. Entrance requirements are also similar. Students are required to complete a minimum of three years of university before they are eligible for admission to the CMCC accredited program. Approximately 90 per cent of students entering the CMCC program have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree.

The CMCC program requires four years of full-time study, including a 12-month internship in CMCC’s clinics. In Quebec, the UQTR has a five-year program following graduation from CÉGEP.

Multi-disciplinary faculty
In addition to the academic program, chiropractic education requires hands-on clinical experience under the supervision of highly-qualified faculty. This experience includes clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral protocols. The multi-disciplinary faculty at both CMCC and UQTR have diverse backgrounds and offer students a wide range of expertise. Faculty come from such disciplines as biological sciences, pathology, medicine and psychology, as well as chiropractic. Both the CMCC and the UQTR programs include courses in anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, neurology, embryology, principles of chiropractic, radiology, immunology, microbiology, pathology, nutrition, and clinical sciences specifically relating to diagnosis.

In particular, chiropractors receive training in radiology that covers a range of topics from radiation biophysics and protection to clinical X-ray interpretation and diagnosis. Radiology training consists of more than 360 contact hours followed by application during clinical internship.

For more information on becoming a Chiropractor please visit the CMCC Website

What conditions can benefit from Chiropractic care?

A considerable number of conditions can be alleviated with Chiropractic treatment, some of these include:

Sore muscles
Injuries (athletic or traumatic of both the spine and extremities)
Neck pain
Disc herniations
Back pain

Some other non-symptomatic conditions may also be treated effectively:

Prevention of recurrent pain
Aberrant posture

To learn more about how Chiropractic can help you, please continue through our FAQ Section or visit our Services Section.

Will I have to keep coming back to the Chiropractor forever?

The treatment plan for each individual varies and depends on a number of factors (ie. age, degree of disability, acuteness or chronicity etc.). Generally, acute (recent onset) neuromusculoskeletal pain scenarios recover quite quickly, whereas chronic longstanding conditions can take a considerable amount of time and may in fact require ongoing maintenance care.

There is also a phase to Chiropractic care called Wellness Care. To learn more about this phase of care please see our Services Section.

FAQs Spinal Decompression

How does Spinal Decompression work?

This treatment is very safe and utilizes FDA approved traction equipment to apply distraction forces in a specific and graduated manner. These distraction forces are offset by cycles of partial relaxation which allow the vertebrae to gently separate from each other, creating a vacuum inside the discs being targeted. The ‘vacuum effect’ created is also known as negative intra-discal pressure.

The negative pressure may induce the retraction of the herniated or bulging disc into the inside of the disc and off the nerves involved.

What result should I expect?

Many patients with lower back syndromes may experience pain relief as early as the third treatment session. Comparison of pre-treatment MRI’s with post-treatment MRI’s has shown a 50-60% reduction in the size and extent of herniation. In clinical studies, 86% of patients reported relief of back pain with spinal decompression program. Within the past five years, some private practice clinicians have reported success rates as high as 90%

What time commitments are required by patients?

Each treatment session averages 25 to 30 minutes in duration (research has established that optimum results are achieved with sessions that incorporate 10 to 15 decompression/relaxation cycles). On average, treatment is administered 3 times weekly for a period of 6-7 weeks or 20 sessions.

Herniated discs generally respond within 20 sessions, while patients with degenerated discs may need ongoing therapy at regulated intervals to remain pain free. Patients with posterior facet syndromes may achieve complete remission with 10 or fewer sessions. Research has demonstrated that most patients achieve full remission from pain after the initial treatment regime.

Who can benefit from using Disc Decompression Therapy?

The following would be inclusion criteria for the Decompression Therapy:

• Pain due to herniated/bulging disc
• Recurrent pain from a failed back surgery that is more than six months old
• Persistent pain from degenerated discs not responding to four weeks of therapy
• Patients available for seven weeks of treatment protocol

Lastly, the system should be utilized with patients with low back pain, with or without radiculapathy who have failed conventional therapy and who are considering surgery. Surgery should only be considered following a reasonable trial of Decompression therapy protocols.

Patients not showing significant improvement by the 15th to 18th session may be referred for further diagnostic evaluation.

Does Decompression Therapy work for everyone?

Eighty-to-ninety percent of patients who have been properly selected and comply with the Spinal Disc Decompression protocol will have good to excellent outcomes. Patient’s conditions that do not respond quickly to the therapy are often unable to be helped by anything quickly. Patients vary in age, sex, and body morphology and may require counseling in weight loss, nutrition and other lifestyle changes.

What is a Subluxation or Subluxation Complex?

“Tight spots”, “misaligned joints”, “subluxations” are all terms that could describe what Chiropractors are looking for when they assess the spine. Essentially, areas where the joints are not moving, are out of place, or are just not functioning as they should, lead to problems such as:

Pain: Our body is very efficient at masking the pain up until the crucial point that it can no longer be disguised. Your Chiropractor may be able to bring to your attention to problem areas you did not know were developing.

Decreased Function: Our daily activities are affected when our joints don’t have their optimal levels of mobility, or when movement creates unnecessary pain.

Loss of Health: The nerves that exit at each level of the spine are in charge of controlling every cell, every function and every decision in our body. Problems in the spine can affect the function of these nerves, and thus our level of health.

Degeneration/Arthritis: When joints are not moving correctly, they begin to grow together. This is known as arthritis and can be very painful and debilitating.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are very thin, about the width of two hairs. There are certain sensations associated with acupuncture which may include heaviness, tingling, slight cramping or electric, traveling sensations. If any discomfort is experienced, it is usually mild and temporary. Most people are deeply relaxed and even fall asleep once all points are placed.

How often should I come?

In general, the body responds more quickly to frequent acupuncture treatments. Once your condition is stabilized, you won’t need to come in as frequently. When you come in for your first treatment, we will discuss a specific treatment plan for you.

What do i need to know for my initial visit?

Be sure to eat a light meal before arriving – don’t arrive on an empty stomach. Try to avoid caffeine or pain medication several hours before you come. Please bring a list of any medications or supplements you are currently taking.

It is also advised that you do not schedule any over-exerting physical activities after the treatment, since the acupuncture effects will continue even after removal of the needles.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Absolutely! Acupuncture is a great option for many pregnancy-related concerns such as nausea, low back pain, sciatica, headaches, insomnia or mood swings. Registered acupuncturists know which points to use throughout your pregnancy to enhance your health and keep both mother and fetus safe.

Are there side effects?

Although acupuncture is beneficial overall and has many positive side effects, there are a few physical and emotional responses to be aware of that can occasionally occur after a treatment. While most of these side effects are often seen as favourable, for some clients they might be overwhelming or surprising.
